Common Council May 12, 2020

Highlights:

  • Resolution R-88-20 Authorizing Accepting of the East Fire Station Solar Improvements Bid

    • The new fire station on Syene Road will be getting solar panels this summer!

  • Resolution R-97-20 Approving 1st Amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Verona to Complete a Study of Goose Lake

    • I'm sure many of you have experienced the periodic flooding at the Fitchrona Road underpass (under Verona Road between Nesbitt and Lacy). This study is the first step toward addressing that permanently.

  • Resolution R-71-20 Extending the Emergency Proclamation Due to COVID-19

  • During my Resource Conservation Commission report, I recommended reading Fitchburg Sustainability Specialist Phil Grupe's opinion piece in the Fitchburg Star.

    • "You might think of sustainability as focusing only on environmental issues, but that’s only part of it. It’s also about understanding that environmental improvements are most effective when we include economic health and social equity as related goals. As we look to recover from this virus and recession, we have an opportunity to think about how we can make structural changes that create greater equity and reduce the number of people who bear the brunt of economic and environmental inequality."

    • Full article "RCC: As we recover from COVID-19, we can do it sustainably"

  • My alder report is about 3 minutes long and can be watched in full at the video below. I covered:

    • Carry-out Restaurant Week starts May 18: more info

    • Fitchburg Farmer’s Market on Thursdays, order in advance: more info
