Common Council April 28, 2020
I attended my first full council meeting in person, but most of the members were video conferencing in so we could keep our distance. I wore a mask as recommended by the CDC, and I will continue to do so as long as that recommendation stands.
Highlights:
R-96-20 In Support of the Amicus Curiae Brief Supporting the State-Wide Safer at Home Order
We signed on to a brief in support of the Safer at Home Order for the pending lawsuit.
Unfortunately, the order was overturned by the State Supreme Court earlier this week, but Public Health Madison & Dane County immediately issued a Safer at Home order for Dane County.
R-76-20 Banning Contractors from Using the Fitchburg Recycling Drop-off Site
This applies to the recycling drop-off location at 2373 S. Fish Hatchery Rd. See more information about the site here.
This site is intended for use by individual Fitchburg citizens, and we cannot continue to accommodate drop-offs from commercial companies.
If you see contractors dropping off at the site, please report it to the city.
R-26-20 Authorizing the Dane County Housing Authority (DCHA) to Operate Within the City of Fitchburg
I am absolutely thrilled that this ordinance passed. If you recall, this was a policy I discussed often during my campaign.
DCHA does fantastic work within the county to create affordable housing. They will now be able to bring their resources and funding into Fitchburg.
R-81-20 A Resolution to Approve 2020 Funding Awards for the Healthy Neighborhoods Grant Program
We approved funding for 8 fantastic organizations.
From the Fitchburg Star article, "Ald. Gabriella Gerhardt (Dist. 2) said she was impressed with the diverse group of funding applicants. 'I love seeing the array of different services that the organizations provide the community,” she said. “I was very impressed with what I saw and very pleased with the potential impact that this is going to have on the city.'"
In my alder report, I announced a McKee Farms Park clean-up that Alder Arata-Fratta and I organized. We had a blast and we hope to do it somewhere in District 2 again soon.
